UK energy company Centrica Plc has acquired a 13-MW operational solar farm and a solar-plus-storage project in England as part of its renewables investment plan.
The acquisition includes the operational Roundponds Solar Farm in Wiltshire and development rights for the construction of a 16-MW solar farm and 3-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) near Winterborne Whitechurch in Dorset, the company announced on Monday.
The Roundponds plant, commissioned in 2015, is already operational. Construction of the new solar and BESS facilities will begin in early 2024, with Centrica expecting to export the first power to the grid in 2025.
These additions to Centrica's portfolio align with its plan to invest between GBP 600 million (USD 757.5m/EUR 700.2m) and GBP 800 million annually in renewable power generation, security of supply, and customer services until 2028.
