Euroports and Port of Hanko to Establish Offshore Wind Energy Hub in Finland

, a Belgium-based port infrastructure operator, has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with 's Port of Hanko Ltd to establish a hub for the industry at the Port of Hanko's Koverhar Harbour.

The initiative aims to address the critical need for a large and dedicated space for the offshore wind energy supply chain. With an area of 600 hectares (1,483 acres), including 90 hectares dedicated to port activities, Koverhar Harbour, located in southernmost Finland, is well-equipped to facilitate large wind turbine projects and serve as a hub for the Baltic Region, Euroports announced on Thursday.

Petteri Sammalisto, Commercial Director of Euroports Finland, stated, “The Letter of Intent with the Port of Hanko enables us to expand our business in . By creating a unique wind hub here, we're not just addressing the immediate needs of the wind energy sector; we're fostering a sustainable ecosystem that will serve the Baltic region and beyond.”

Anders Ahlvik, CEO of Port of Hanko, added, “Port of Hanko and specially Koverhar is a perfect harbour for the assembly and storage of wind turbine components.”

The agreement marks a significant step towards developing sustainable infrastructure for the offshore wind industry in the Baltic region.
