Scatec ASA Secures Deal to Power Egypt Aluminum Company with 1-GW Solar Project

Norwegian renewable power producer Scatec ASA has inked a landmark agreement for the development of a massive 1-gigawatt (GW) project, aimed at supplying clean energy to the operations of Aluminum Company's complex in the city of Nagaa Hammadi, located in Upper Egypt.

According to an announcement by Egypt's Ministry of the Public Business Sector on Tuesday, the solar park will be established in two phases, with each phase boasting a capacity of 500 MW. The first phase is slated for completion within 18 months from the date of signing, while the second phase is expected to be operational within 24 months.

Situated in close proximity to the factory in Nagaa Hammadi, the solar facility represents a crucial step towards bolstering Egypt's . Scatec, known for its extensive portfolio of large-scale green energy projects in the North African region, will spearhead the project's development, financing, and equipment installation.

Egypt Aluminum Company, renowned for its production of molten aluminium and various aluminium products, has been a cornerstone of Egypt's industrial landscape since 1975. With an annual production capacity of 320,000 tonnes, the facility plays a pivotal role in the country's manufacturing sector.
