Renewables developer and Pty Ltd have obtained an updated generation license from 's Control Board (ECB) for the construction of the 60-MWp SolNam solar project in the southern region of the country. The joint development agreement signed in early 2023 outlines plans to co-develop the merchant project, which has secured land near the Kokerboom sub-station, an environmental clearance certificate, and aims to achieve financial close later this year. The project primarily targets supplying energy to Namibian customers.

SolNam will be Solarcentury 's second merchant project in Namibia, following the upcoming 20-MWp Gerus solar plant, set to commence construction in the coming months. As a member of the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP), Solarcentury Africa aims to establish itself as a leading power trader in Southern Africa, leveraging its solar development experience and the energy trading expertise of parent company BB Energy, an independent energy trader since early 2021.

The merchant approach enables the rapid and cost-effective delivery of new renewable power capacity, contributing to the energy transition and addressing the growing power needs of the region, according to Solarcentury Africa.
