Danish engineering consultancy K2 Management (K2M) has been appointed as the owner's engineer for a section of the MyeongRyang Offshore Wind project, a component of the larger 3.2 GW offshore wind initiative in South Korea. The specific project entails the development of a fixed-bottom offshore wind farm with a capacity of approximately 420 MW.
The MyeongRyang station will be situated off the coast of Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do, with construction set to commence in 2028. Pacifico Energy Korea (PEK), a subsidiary of US renewable energy developer Pacifico Energy, leads the project.
K2M's role includes overall project management, wind analysis, metocean studies, conceptual designs, contractor selection for site investigation, and providing technical support during the investigation process. The consultancy began its work on the project in December 2023 and anticipates active involvement until 2025.
The offshore wind project, with a gigawatt-scale capacity, comprises three generation facilities and is expected to generate enough electricity to power approximately three million households upon completion. Key participants in the initiative include Pacifico Energy, Hyundai Electric, CS Wind, Korea Ocean Engineering & Consultants, and Daebul Shipbuilding.
