JERA and Green Power Launch 112MW Offshore Wind Farm in Japan

and Green Power Investment Corporation have successfully initiated commercial operations at the 112MW Ishikari Bay New Port Offshore Wind Farm in Japan. Located 3 km off the coast of Hokkaido, the offshore wind farm incorporates 14 Siemens Gamesa 8MW turbines.

Operated through the special purpose company Green Power Ishikari GK, the partners, JERA and Green Power Investment Corporation, oversaw the onshore construction conducted by Corporation and offshore construction managed by a joint venture between Shimizu Corporation and Nippon Steel Engineering.

All generated electricity will be directed to the Hokkaido Electric Power Network (HEPN) after passing through a dedicated transformer substation, equipped with a 100MW battery storage capacity. The power will then be transmitted through HEPN's Nishi substation.

JERA acknowledged the crucial role played by regional communities and government administrations, including Hokkaido Prefecture, Ishikari City, and Otaru City, in facilitating the project's development and construction. The collaboration and support from these stakeholders were essential in bringing the Ishikari Bay New Port Offshore Wind Farm to fruition, according to JERA.

In May 2023, , headquartered in the United States, entered into an agreement with JERA and Corporation for the joint acquisition of Green Power Investment Corporation, further emphasizing the global significance of renewable energy collaborations in the Japanese market.
