, the Transmission System Operator (TSO), has achieved a crucial milestone with the planning approval granted for the DolWin4 wind grid connection. This 900-megawatt (MW) infrastructure is designed to transmit electricity from wind parks situated in the German to the mainland.

The approval encompasses the DolWin delta converter platform and a 26-kilometer (16.16 miles) long submarine system within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ). Following this significant development, Amprion now enters a multi-stage approval process with the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) to proceed with construction activities.

Project manager Jan Wiemer expressed satisfaction, stating, “We can now concentrate on the BSH approvals. What makes me particularly proud is that it is the first planning approval decision for Amprion in the exclusive economic zone.”

In tandem with DolWin4, Amprion is set to implement the BorWin4 offshore grid connection project, also boasting a capacity of 900 MW. These parallel power lines are slated to commence operations in 2028. The DolWin4 project spans approximately 215 kilometers, including 60 kilometers of submarine cables beneath the island of .

Meanwhile, the BorWin4 route covers about 280 kilometers, with approximately 125 kilometers submerged at sea. The land segments for both projects are planned as underground direct current cables, connecting to the substation in Lingen, where Amprion will seamlessly integrate them into its transmission network.
