Sonnedix Inaugurates 50MW Solar Plant in Spain, Supporting Local Economy and Community

Renewable energy company, Sonnedix, has officially inaugurated its 50MW PV plant, Sonnedix Los Frailes, in Badajoz, . The ceremony was attended by over 50 guests, including local and regional government officials, such as Samuel Ruiz, General Director for Industry, Energy and Mining of the regional Government of Extremadura, and Eladio Buzo, Economy and Treasury Councillor of Badajoz City Council.

During the construction phase, the project created approximately 250 jobs in the region, aligning with Sonnedix's commitment to the local economy and community. Sonnedix has also signed a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Statkraft, the largest producer of renewable energy in , to supply 100GWh of energy per year.

“This plant is the first project that Sonnedix España has fully developed and built in Spain, as well as taking care of its , operations and maintenance. It is, therefore, a symbol of our consolidation in the market as a leading renewable energy producer. We are very proud to be sharing and celebrating this milestone with so many partners, clients and friends today,” said , Director of Sonnedix España, who cut the ribbon to officially inaugurate the solar farm.

Sonnedix Los Frailes is located on 111 hectares of land and is equipped with over 110,000 monocrystalline solar panels, which are connected to a transmission line to the Vaguadas substation. The project has been operational since December 2022 and is expected to generate enough electricity to power approximately 25,000 households in the region.

The inauguration of Sonnedix Los Frailes is a significant step towards Spain's renewable energy targets, as the country aims to reach 74% renewable electricity generation by 2030. Sonnedix's investment in renewable energy projects in Spain will help the country to achieve its goals, while also creating job opportunities and supporting local communities.
