RWE Expands Green Footprint in Poland with 66MW Solar Projects

RWE, the German energy developer, has bolstered its green energy portfolio in Poland by securing for projects totaling 66MW from the Polish Energy Regulatory Office. The winning portfolio comprises small and medium-sized photovoltaic (PV) projects with varying construction timelines.

The majority of the sites are slated for construction in 2024 and are strategically located in Warmińsko-Mazurskie, Wielkopolskie, Łódzkie, and Dolnośląskie provinces. Notably, many of these projects were initially developed by Polish company Alpha Solar, which RWE acquired in 2022.

, Chief Executive of Europe & Australia, highlighted Poland as a core growth market for the company, offering favorable conditions for both wind and solar power. Wünschel stated, “We are determined to contribute to Poland's energy transition. With our recent auction successes, we are further expanding our strong position in onshore wind and taking another step towards developing a significant solar portfolio in Poland.”

Agnieszka Wojnarowska, Head of Development for Onshore Wind and Solar at RWE Renewables Poland, emphasized the success in the tenders as a strengthening of RWE's position as a leading renewables company. She noted that securing a portion of the revenue stream long-term aligns with RWE's commitment to Poland's landscape. RWE has been an active investor in Poland for over 15 years, offering favorable conditions and transparent collaboration, positioning the company as a long-term and stable partner.

RWE already operates photovoltaic farms with an installed capacity exceeding 32MW in Poland, located in Zachodniopomorskie, Wielkopolskie, and Podlaskie provinces. The company is set to make further investments, expanding into additional provinces, with PV plants exceeding 100MW currently under construction in Poland.
