Adani Total Gas Initiates Pilot Project to Integrate Green Hydrogen into Natural Gas Supply in Gujarat

Adani Total Gas Limited (ATGL), a prominent player in 's city gas distribution (CGD) sector, has unveiled plans for a pioneering pilot project that involves blending with for select residential and commercial consumers in the state of . The strategic initiative, announced on Tuesday, aims to achieve a blend of up to 8%, subject to regulatory approvals.

Scheduled for commissioning in the first quarter of fiscal year 2024/2025, the project targets over 4,000 residential and commercial customers in Ahmedabad, Gujarat's largest city. Adani Total Gas anticipates that an 8% hydrogen blend could potentially result in a notable 4% reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, aligning with sustainability goals.

The green hydrogen blending demonstration project serves as a precursor to a larger-scale implementation, with Adani Total Gas planning a phased distribution of hydrogen-blended fuel to broader segments of Ahmedabad and other licensed areas. The company's commitment to environmental sustainability is underscored by this initiative, reflecting its dedication to contributing to India's goal of achieving energy independence by 2047.

CEO Suresh P Manglani emphasized the company's unwavering commitment to building an environmentally sustainable operation. Adani Total Gas, a joint venture between India's Adani Group and French energy conglomerate , has positioned itself as a key player in advancing cleaner energy solutions.

TotalEnergies acquired a 37.4% stake in the Indian business, formerly known as Adani Gas, in 2019, marking a collaborative effort toward shaping the future of the energy landscape in the region.
