Ilmatar has recently secured a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the development of the Korpilevonmäki wind farm in the Säkylä region of south-west Finland. The project, boasting a nominal capacity of 38.4MW, is slated to commence production in 2026.
In a significant move, Ilmatar inked a 10-year PPA with Mondelēz International, a leading snacks company, solidifying their commitment to sustainable energy practices. The Korpilevonmäki project comprises six turbines, which will be supplied, installed, and commissioned by Vestas. Additionally, the agreement encompasses a comprehensive 30-year service availability commitment, extendable up to 35 years.
Having acquired project rights in 2021, Ilmatar maintains its strategic ownership of the wind farm throughout its entire lifecycle. Construction activities for the site are set to commence promptly.
Upon completion, the Korpilevonmäki project is anticipated to generate an annual production capacity of approximately 125GWh, equivalent to the electricity consumption of around 50,000 apartments or 6250 electrically heated detached houses.
Ilmatar's Chief Executive, Juha-Pekka Weckström, expressed the company's commitment to growth and accelerating investments in renewable energy in both Finland and Sweden. Despite challenges in the investment environment, Weckström emphasized Ilmatar's resilience, successful financing discussions, and the recognition from investors of the increasing demand for renewable energy.
The Korpilevonmäki initiative marks one of the noteworthy decisions to commence wind farm construction projects in Finland this year, reflecting Ilmatar's dedication to advancing sustainable energy solutions.
