French energy company Lhyfe has emerged victorious in the recent call for proposals (AMI) initiated by Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port, securing the opportunity to establish a green hydrogen industrial production and distribution site in Montoir-de-Bretagne. The ambitious project, launched in November 2022, involves the allocation of prime land within the port's industrial and logistics hub to facilitate the development of an industrial-scale renewable hydrogen production facility.
In alignment with Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port's strategic shift towards a low-carbon economic paradigm, Lhyfe aims to construct an industrial unit boasting an electrolysis capacity of 210MW. The facility is slated to produce up to 85 tonnes of green and renewable hydrogen daily, strategically situated in the northern sector of the bulk port terminal.
The anticipated operational commencement of the site is set for 2028, reinforcing the commitment to the Low Carbon Industrial Zone development outlined in the action program. This initiative enjoys support from key stakeholders such as the Association des Industriels Loire Estuaire, Saint-Nazaire Agglomération, the Estuaire and Sillon areas, and the Pays de la Loire Region.
However, the realization of the project is contingent upon the successful acquisition of operating authorizations and construction permits, as well as pivotal financial investment decisions. The comprehensive plan underscores the collaborative effort required to usher in a sustainable and eco-friendly industrial landscape in the region.
