Germany’s Rooftop Solar Tender Attracts Nearly Double the Targeted Capacity

In the latest round of Germany's for the year, a total of 88 bids with a combined capacity of 191 MW were selected, nearly double the targeted capacity. The Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) revealed that it received 184 bids for installations on buildings and noise barriers, proposing a total capacity of 373 MW. Twelve bids were excluded due to formal errors, as reported by the power regulator on Tuesday.

The volume-weighted average price in this round reached EUR 0.0958 (USD 0.105) per kWh, below the level of EUR 0.1018 from the previous round. Bids in the latest round ranged from EUR 0.088 to EUR 0.099 per kWh.

The majority of the awards were distributed to projects in North Rhine-Westphalia, with 14 projects totaling 27 MW. This was followed by Lower Saxony with 13 awards for 25 MW, with 13 awards totaling 21 MW, and with 11 awards and a combined capacity of 20 MW.

Open to solar projects with individual capacities ranging from 1 MW to 20 MW, 64 of the awarded projects were up to 2 MW. The largest successful bid secured a capacity of 17 MW.

This round adds to the cumulative capacity allocated in the first two rounds of 2023, totaling 388 MW. The first tender fell short of its 217 MW goal, selecting projects amounting to 195 MW. However, interest rebounded in the second round, resulting in a significant oversubscription.
