Lhyfe Secures £14m Grant from H2 Pioneros for Green Hydrogen Plant in Spain

, the renewable energy company, has been granted up to £14 million by H2 Pioneros to advance the development of a green production plant in . Marking Lhyfe's inaugural foray into green hydrogen production in the country, the project is part of a broader European expansion, with seven additional sites currently under construction.

Situated in Vallmoll (Tarragona), the plant aims to cater to the growing demand for green hydrogen from various industrial entities in the region. Prospective clients include companies in the chemical and other industrial sectors seeking to transition from fossil fuels to green hydrogen in their production processes. Additionally, transport and logistics firms exploring eco-friendly alternatives, such as hydrogen-powered electric vehicles, could also benefit.

Lhyfe, with a diverse portfolio spanning 11 countries and a robust pipeline of over 10GW in , views the as a significant endorsement of its proficiency in green hydrogen production and delivery. The funds, earmarked for design, equipment supply, and construction phases, constitute roughly half of the total estimated investment. Anticipated to commence green hydrogen production in 2026, the project aligns with Spain's hydrogen strategy, focusing on expanding renewable energy-based hydrogen infrastructure.

Taia Kronborg, Chief Business Officer at Lhyfe, expressed satisfaction with the grant, emphasizing its recognition as a testament to the company's dedication and expertise in the green hydrogen sector. Kronborg reiterated Lhyfe's commitment to Spain's hydrogen strategy, underlining the project's role in supplying competitive green hydrogen for industrial and transport companies in the Tarragona province.

While the project's realization is contingent on securing operating authorizations, construction permits, and financial investment decisions, it underscores the momentum of green hydrogen initiatives in Spain.
