Saudi Arabia Initiates Bidding for 3.7 GW Solar Projects in Latest Renewable Energy Round

Saudi Arabia has officially launched the qualification process for its fifth round of the National Programme (NREP), inviting companies to bid for four projects with a total capacity of 3.7 GW.

The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) initiated the qualification process on Sunday, signaling the Kingdom's continued commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio.

The largest project in the fifth round is the Al Sadawi solar scheme, planned for construction in the Eastern Province, boasting a substantial capacity of 2 GW. Additionally, the Hail Region is designated for the 1-GW AlMas'a project.

Two more solar parks, Al Henakiyah 2 (400 MW) and Rabigh 2 (300 MW), are slated for development in the Al Madinah and Makkah regions, respectively.

This announcement follows closely on the heels of the recent signing of power purchase agreements for two projects under the NREP. The 1,100 MW Al Henakiyah project, awarded to a consortium of , , and Saudi-based Nesma Renewable Energy, secured a competitive price of USD 16.84 (EUR 15.76) per MWh. Simultaneously, the 400-MW Tabarjal scheme will be developed and operated by Technology Co., Ltd.
