Acciona Energia and Freya Renewables to Develop 160MW Wind Farm in the Philippines

Acciona Energia, in collaboration with its local partner , has been chosen to spearhead the development of a 160MW in the . This milestone contract has been awarded by the Philippines' Department of Energy (DoE) as part of the fourth Open and Competitive Selection Process (OCSP4), focusing on hydropower, geothermal, and wind resources.

Under this contract, Acciona Energia and Freya Renewables will have the rights to explore, develop, and utilize wind resources in a predefined area located in Pantabangan Municipality, situated approximately 150 kilometers north of Manila. The selection reflects the Philippines government's proactive efforts to bolster sources, reducing the nation's reliance on imported fossil fuels. Ambitious targets have been set, with the goal of increasing the share of renewables in the energy mix to 35% by 2030 and an even more substantial 50% by 2040.

Acciona Energia's commitment to renewable energy initiatives in the Philippines extends beyond wind projects. Recently, the company entered into an agreement with the Cebu Provincial Government and Freya Renewables to develop a 150MW photovoltaic plant on the island of Cebu.

Acciona has been actively involved in the Philippines since 2016, operating through its water and divisions, where it has successfully executed notable projects, including the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), the DWTP Putatan II water treatment plant, and the DWTP Laguna Lake.

The collaboration between Acciona Energia and Freya Renewables underscores the importance of international partnerships in advancing the Philippines' renewable energy goals and signifies a substantial step forward in the nation's transition toward cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
