French renewable power plant operator Voltalia SA has solidified its collaboration with Uzbekistani authorities for the advancement of two key projects in the Central Asian nation. The agreements were finalized last week during the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Uzbekistan, according to an announcement by Voltalia on Friday.
One of these agreements involves the 500-MW Shurkul hybrid project, located in the Navoi region of southwestern Uzbekistan. The project encompasses the deployment of solar photovoltaic (PV), wind, and energy storage capacity, with a total capacity ranging from 400 MW to 500 MW. An initial agreement for this venture was initially inked in November 2021.
The second arrangement pertains to the expansion of the 123-MW Sarimay solar project by incorporating an additional 100 MW of wind and battery energy storage capacity. Voltalia secured the right to develop this project in Uzbekistan's Khorezm region in December, as part of a tender administered by the International Finance Corporation.
Sebastien Clerc, CEO of Voltalia, expressed, “These two bilateral agreements strengthen our presence in Uzbekistan,” underscoring the company's commitment to bolstering its footprint in the country.
