Swift Current Energy, a renewable power producer, has inked a deal with First Solar to acquire 500 megawatts of the manufacturer's Series 7 thin-film photovoltaic (PV) modules.
The hardware delivery is scheduled between 2027 and 2028, as announced by First Solar on Wednesday, with specific financial terms of the contract remaining undisclosed. This agreement builds upon Swift Current Energy's previous agreements made last year when the Boston-headquartered company secured 3.3 gigawatts of First Solar modules for its various projects.
Since its establishment in 2016, Swift Current Energy has successfully brought over 2.5 gigawatts of renewable energy projects to the commercial stage. Currently, the company owns and operates 1.4 gigawatts of renewable power plants, with many more solar, wind, and energy storage initiatives in its development pipeline, totaling over 10 gigawatts.
Eric Lammers, Co-founder and CEO of Swift Current Energy, emphasized the significance of pricing and supply certainty to ensure the timely and successful delivery of capacity as the company advances its development pipeline across the United States.
First Solar is anticipating an expansion of its nameplate manufacturing capacity in the United States to reach 14 gigawatts by 2026. The solar product manufacturer presently boasts six gigawatts of manufacturing facilities and is actively engaged in creating new capacity and expansion projects in Alabama, Louisiana, and Ohio. This strategic move positions First Solar to play a pivotal role in meeting the growing demand for solar solutions in the region.
