China's battery titan, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL), announced on Friday the commencement of operations for the first phase of its latest energy power and storage battery manufacturing base, located in Guian New Area, Guizhou Province.
Spanning 59 hectares, the first phase of this ambitious project represents an investment of approximately 7 billion yuan (around 0.98 billion US dollars). With an envisioned annual production capacity of 30 GWh, the battery base is expected to significantly bolster CATL's manufacturing capabilities.
“Once the base reaches its full designed production capacity, we anticipate an annual output value of 15 billion yuan, furthering our commitment to the local community by generating over 3,000 jobs,” a representative from CATL stated.
Founded just over a decade ago in 2011, CATL's rapid ascent in the battery industry is notable. The company boasts a global network with 13 manufacturing bases. Notably, its power battery and energy storage battery shipments have secured the top spot globally for six and two consecutive years, respectively.
2022 data highlighted Guizhou's burgeoning prowess in the new energy battery and material industry, showcasing an impressive industrial output value of 53.28 billion yuan. By 2025, the province sets its sights on becoming a pivotal R&D and production hub for new energy power batteries and related materials.
