Vattenfall and Air Liquide have inked a significant power purchase agreement (PPA) for 115MW of capacity from the Hollandse Kust Zuid (HKZ) offshore wind farm, situated off the picturesque Dutch coastline. This momentous contract spans a 15-year term, set to commence in 2026, and marks the second such collaboration between these industry giants.
Air Liquide, renowned for its role in the gas production sector, plans to utilize this substantial electricity supply to spearhead the decarbonization of its industrial and medical operations within the region. Additionally, it aims to empower its clientele to reduce the carbon footprint of their end products, thereby contributing to the realization of a low-carbon economy in Europe.
Erik Suichies, Head of Wholesale Customers at Vattenfall, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Air Liquide has ambitious sustainability targets, and we are pleased to once again provide them with fossil-free electricity to support their decarbonization efforts. Vattenfall is committed to the pursuit of fossil freedom, and long-term contracts like these not only enhance our financial stability but also enable us to continue investing in wind and solar farms—a cornerstone of our ambitious green energy goals. The Netherlands is steadfastly progressing towards a fossil-free future, and we are determined to make that vision a reality for our valued customers.”
The recently inaugurated Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm, a true engineering marvel, is situated between 18 and 36 kilometers off the Dutch coast, extending from The Hague to Zandvoort. With a colossal capacity of 1.5GW, the wind farm is adorned with 139 state-of-the-art wind turbines. Notably, it stands as one of the world's pioneering subsidy-free offshore wind projects, marking a significant milestone in the global transition to renewable energy sources.
This partnership between Vattenfall and Air Liquide signifies a formidable alliance in the pursuit of a greener, more sustainable future. By harnessing the power of wind and renewable energy, they are not only advancing their respective corporate sustainability agendas but also contributing to Europe's broader mission to combat climate change and reduce carbon emissions. As the winds of change continue to blow, the Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm stands as a testament to the remarkable possibilities of clean energy, ushering in a new era of environmentally responsible industrial practices.
