Dominion Energy, a key player in the energy sector, reached a noteworthy milestone in its 2600MW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project with the arrival of the initial consignment of monopiles at the Port of Virginia's Portsmouth Marine Terminal. This event represents a crucial step toward the development of renewable wind energy resources along the Virginia coast.
The monopiles, manufactured by EEW SPC in Rostock, are fundamental components for the CVOW project. EEW SPC is a well-regarded manufacturer in the offshore wind industry. In total, 176 monopile foundations will be produced to support the CVOW project. These monopiles are substantial, measuring 83 meters in length, with each one weighing 1538 tonnes and having a diameter of up to 9.5 meters.
The Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project, located off the Virginia Beach coastline, has progressed significantly since its initial two-turbine pilot project commissioned in 2020. The arrival of these monopiles demonstrates Dominion Energy's commitment to advancing their vision of a substantial wind farm capable of generating 2600MW of renewable energy.
