Japan's Marubeni and its partners have committed to invest 10 billion pounds ($12.3 billion) in clean energy initiatives in the United Kingdom over the next ten years, as per a memorandum of understanding (MoU) finalized on Wednesday.
The MoU, which encompasses the floating offshore wind power sector in Scotland, was signed in Tokyo by representatives of Marubeni and the UK government.
Hiroshi Tachigami, who oversees Marubeni's offshore wind and domestic renewable energy department, commented on the increasing demand for clean energy solutions such as offshore wind power and hydrogen in both Japan and the UK.
Marubeni itself is set to contribute approximately 1 billion pounds to these initiatives and anticipates support from the UK government. This includes assistance with the offshore wind power project to ensure consistent revenue generation from power sales.
Marubeni highlighted the 3.6 gigawatt Ossian floating offshore wind farm in Scotland as the most significant project among the planned investments.
