Swiss energy major Axpo announced its intention to set up a 25MW wind farm in Finland, cementing its commitment to expanding renewable energy across international borders.
Securing rights from Rosafors Invest AB, Axpo is slated to build the Lålax wind farm in the Vörå municipality, situated within the Ostrobothnia region of Western Finland. With all requisite clearances in place, the energy group is poised to commence construction by spring of 2024, eyeing an operational debut in early 2026.
Upon completion, the Lålax facility is projected to generate an impressive 70 million kilowatt-hours of green electricity annually. This output suffices the energy demands of nearly 17,500 households of four members each.
In line with its expansion trajectory, Axpo recently inaugurated its office in the Finnish city of Vaasa, a mere 25 kilometers from the project's location.
Joakim Ingves, Managing Director of Axpo Renewable Finland, expressed confidence in the project's location. “Being based in Vaasa offers us a strategic advantage in closely monitoring the construction, ensuring timely completion,” Ingves noted. “Beyond energy, this venture is poised to invigorate the local economy with job opportunities.”
The Finnish government's ambitious target of achieving climate neutrality by 2035 further propels Axpo's endeavors in the region. Highlighting this, Katja Stommel, who helms Axpo's Wind Division, remarked, “The swift development of onshore wind facilities is pivotal for Finland's eco-vision.
