Netherlands and Indonesia Forge Renewable Energy Collaboration to Tackle Climate Change

Netherlands is promoting collaborative efforts with to expedite the transition to . Prince Jaime de Bourbon de Parme, the climate envoy of the Netherlands, emphasized the importance of such cooperation during the Renewable Energy and Climate Summit held in Indonesia.

Prince Jaime underscored the global significance of solar and cooperation as cost-effective means of combating climate change. He stated, “These, globally, are the most cost-effective ways to have renewable energy and to combat climate change.”

One of the pivotal milestones in the Netherlands-Indonesia collaboration has been the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on energy transition at the G20 meeting held in Bali. This agreement demonstrates the commitment of both nations to jointly address climate change and transition to clean energy solutions.

Additionally, at this year's G20 Summit in India, Indonesia and the Netherlands, among other world leaders, agreed on a shared objective to triple global renewable energy capacity by 2030. The summit in Indonesia marked the commencement of concerted efforts to meet these global targets, aligning with the broader objective of mitigating climate change.

The summit's primary focus was to foster cooperation between Indonesia and the Netherlands in the realm of energy transition, creating new opportunities for collaboration. Notably, a new cooperation agreement was signed during the event, with Dutch company Hyet Solar and collaborating on the construction of a PV thin-film factory in Indonesia. This facility is set to have an annual production capacity of 300 MW, with a capital investment of US$200 million.

Prince Jaime highlighted the summit's role in facilitating the exchange of knowledge regarding sustainable energy innovations and developments, fostering new business relationships, and nurturing partnerships between Indonesian and Dutch companies. Moreover, it is anticipated that the summit will drive investments in Indonesia's sustainable energy sector, promote a green economy, and bolster the sustainable trade relationship.

In his closing remarks, Prince Jaime acknowledged the presence of knowledge institutions at the summit, emphasizing their critical role in addressing the challenges posed by climate change. The summit serves as a platform for collective efforts to navigate these complexities and advance sustainable energy solutions.
