MW Energy, a joint venture between Masdar and W Solar Investment, has inked a crucial agreement with Tajikistan's Ministry of Energy and Water Resources. The memorandum of understanding paves the way for the study and potential development of a minimum of 500 megawatts (MW) of clean energy projects in the Central Asian nation.
This partnership represents Masdar's maiden entry into Tajikistan and sets the stage for a collaborative effort in the fields of floating solar power, wind energy, and hydropower projects, all to be realized through a Public-Private Partnership.
The initial phase of this ambitious venture is slated to achieve a total capacity of 500 MW, significantly contributing to Tajikistan's energy landscape. Although the nation heavily relies on hydropower for its energy generation, it possesses abundant potential for diversifying into other emerging renewable energy sources.
Daler Jum'a, the Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan, emphasized the country's forward-looking goals, stating that Tajikistan aims to attain 700 MW of solar and wind energy generating stations by 2030. A notable portion of this capacity, approximately 450 MW, is already in the developmental pipeline, backed by feasibility studies supported by international consulting firms and financial institutions.
Minister Jum'a underscored Tajikistan's dedication to expanding its installed electricity generation capacity and nurturing its promising green energy sector. He commented, “Tajikistan is committed to increasing its installed electricity generation capacity and growing its promising green energy sector. Our land is blessed with many natural resources, and we look forward to working with partners to harness this potential and meet our energy and development goals.”
