The Port of Nigg has been selected by Ocean Winds for a crucial role in the Moray West offshore wind project off the coast of Scotland. Global Energy Group (GEG), the owner of the Port of Nigg, has been awarded a significant contract encompassing various critical onsite services, including crane operations, logistics, equipment mounting, inspection, and repair support. This contract aims to facilitate the marshalling of 62 transition pieces (TPs) for the Moray West project.
In addition to its existing workforce, this contract is expected to create new job opportunities at the Port of Nigg and support employment within GEG. The TPs are slated to arrive at the port later in 2023, with installation commencing shortly thereafter and anticipated completion in 2024.
This latest contract follows recent announcements that the Port of Nigg will serve as a marshalling and pre-assembly site for wind turbine generators for Moray West, in collaboration with Siemens Gamesa. GEG's Fabrication Division has also secured the production of two J-tube frames, crucial components of the foundation structures.
GEG has a strong track record, having managed over 2.6 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind assets through the Port of Nigg. Charlie Morrison, Operations Director at GEG and Port of Nigg, expressed the team's readiness and expertise in supporting offshore wind projects. He stated, “The knowledge and experience we have developed allows us to continually improve our service offerings as the UK's offshore wind partner of choice.”
Pete Geddes, Moray West Project Director, expressed delight in signing this services agreement with Global Energy Group. He cited the company's impressive track record in supporting offshore wind projects in Scotland and the expanded facilities at the Port of Nigg, which instilled confidence in their capabilities to handle the scope of work. Geddes further emphasized Ocean Winds' commitment to investing in the Scottish supply chain to bolster its capability and capacity for future endeavors in the region.
