Ethical Power, a UK-headquartered renewables developer, has made its foray into the Italian solar photovoltaic (PV) market with ambitious plans for a 250MW project pipeline. To spearhead this endeavor, the company has appointed Francesca Cavallini as the new country manager for its Italian operations.
Establishing a presence in Milan, Ethical Power Italia will focus on developing this 250MW pipeline, marking its initial ventures into Italy's burgeoning renewable energy landscape. Specific details regarding the timeline, project locations, and a breakdown of the pipeline projects are currently pending, with further inquiries directed to the company.
Tom Kneen, the founder and CEO of Ethical Power, expressed the company's enthusiasm for entering the Italian market, stating, “With its high solar generation potential and a huge appetite for renewables, Italy is an attractive new market for Ethical Power. We are keen to contribute to Italy's ambitious green development plans. We have several interesting opportunities in the pipeline.”
The Italian solar industry association, Italia Solare, reported remarkable growth in Italy's solar market, experiencing a 129% year-on-year increase in the first half of 2023. This surge added 2.3GW of solar capacity, bringing the nation's total solar capacity to 27.3GW. Notably, this growth trend aligns with Spain's Solaria securing over US$1.5 billion from the European Investment Bank to develop a substantial 5.6GW solar portfolio across Italy, Spain, and Portugal.
Italy, like several European Union countries, has revamped its National Energy and Climate Plans (NECP) to align with ambitious renewable energy targets. The country now aims to achieve 65% of electricity generation from renewables by 2030.
Francesca Cavallini, with her extensive experience in renewables at companies like EDP Renewables and Gamesa, assumes the role of country manager for Ethical Power Italia. Kneen expressed confidence in Cavallini's capabilities, stating, “Francesca's extensive international experience in design and construction of renewables means she can confidently lead all projects to successful delivery. She is a perfect fit for Ethical Power Italia. Without a doubt, we will soon be talking about completion of new projects with the Ethical Power Italia mark on them!”
