Vestas, a player in the global wind energy sector, has recently confirmed a substantial 126 MW order to repower the Downeast Wind project situated in Maine, USA. The project is owned by Apex Clean Energy, and this development represents a significant stride towards enhancing the renewable energy landscape in the region.
The order encompasses 30 V150-4.2 MW wind turbines. Vestas is responsible for the complete supply chain, encompassing delivery and commissioning of these turbines, ensuring a seamless transition to the new renewable energy infrastructure. Additionally, the agreement includes a multi-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service arrangement, aimed at optimizing the performance of this renewable energy asset.
Laura Beane, President of Vestas North America, expressed optimism about the ongoing partnership with Apex Clean Energy, highlighting its positive impact on local communities throughout the United States. Beane stated, “With our widely recognized 4 MW platform, one of the most popular platforms globally, we aim to contribute to Maine's objective of achieving 80 percent renewable energy by 2030 and 100 percent by 2050.”
Ken Young, CEO of Apex Clean Energy, emphasized the significance of their enduring partnership with Vestas in fulfilling their mission to expedite the transition to clean energy nationwide. Young noted, “As our portfolio expands, we remain committed to developing renewable energy projects that not only support the transition but also directly benefit the communities we engage with.”
The project timeline indicates that turbine deliveries will commence in the second quarter of 2024, with commissioning scheduled for the fourth quarter of the same year.
