Engie, a global energy company, has officially inaugurated the revitalized Plouarzel 1 wind farm in France following a highly successful repowering program. This transformative initiative is set to significantly increase the park's electricity generation, projecting a remarkable 70% surge in output. The wind farm is expected to produce nearly 12,000MWh annually, a substantial improvement from its previous capacity of 7,000MWh.
As part of the repowering process, four out of the five wind turbines underwent refurbishment, with the aim of relocating them to a new wind park within Europe. The fifth turbine was dismantled, its components repurposed for spare parts. An integral aspect of the upgrade was the elevation of each unit's height, raising them from 64 meters to 73.5 meters. Engie Green, the subsidiary responsible for renewable energy within the Engie Group, spearheaded this endeavor, committing an overall investment of €6.5 million.

The Plouarzel 1 wind farm, initially commissioned in the year 2000, holds a historical significance as one of the pioneering wind farms in the Brittany region. Subsequently, four additional turbines were integrated into the site as part of the Plouarzel 2 project in 2007, bringing the collective installed capacity to 7.7MW.
Notably, the Plouarzel 2 wind farm is also on Engie's radar for a repowering initiative, signaling the company's commitment to advancing renewable energy and enhancing the efficiency of existing wind infrastructure.
