Nexans Marine Operations and Ulstein Verft Secure Contract for State-of-the-Art DP3 Cable Laying Vessel

Marine Operations AS has inked a contract with Verft for the construction of a cutting-edge DP3 laying . This vessel, based on the ST-297 CLV design by Skipsteknisk, represents an enhanced iteration of the previously delivered Nexans Aurora in 2021.

The DP3 cable laying vessel is purpose-built to excel in the transportation and installation of diverse subsea cables, encompassing cable bundles and facilitating recovery and repair operations. Its exceptional capabilities include a split turntable on deck with an impressive 10,000-ton cable holding capacity, an under-deck turntable boasting a 3,500-ton cable capacity, and a fiber optic basket capable of accommodating 450 tons of equipment. This vessel, measuring an impressive 31 meters in width and spanning 149.9 meters in length, is thoughtfully designed to accommodate a crew of up to 90 professionals.

Under the terms of the contract, Ulstein Verft assumes responsibility for the meticulous construction of the vessel, as well as the preparation of its topside equipment. This venture builds upon Ulstein Verft's proven track record, including the successful delivery of the Nexans Aurora vessel, which played a pivotal role in securing the contract. , Nexans EVP Generation & Transmission, expressed, “We awarded the contract for a new vessel to Ulstein after an extensive tendering process, where Ulstein's track record, including the delivery of Nexans Aurora, was important factors in deciding on the shipyard Ulstein Verft yet again.”
