has enlisted Offshore for rock installation works at its impressive 1,529-megawatt (MW) Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm, situated in the . This crucial task is slated to occur between the fourth quarter of 2023 and the first quarter of 2025.

Before embarking on the rock berm installation phase, Vattenfall took a proactive step by engaging to conduct Inter Array Cables (IAC) inspections and scour pad surveys. Remarkably, these inspections were carried out using one of Fugro's innovative assets, the Blue Essence uncrewed surface , paired with the electric remotely operated vehicle, Blue Volta.

The cutting-edge technology allowed for remote operations from Fugro's centre in Aberdeen, resulting in a remarkable reduction of fuel consumption, up to 95% less than conventional support vessels. Equally significant is the elimination of personnel exposure to high-risk offshore environments, thereby significantly enhancing safety.

Vattenfall's adoption of this approach aligns seamlessly with its overarching goals and objectives, centred on improved safety and sustainability within the offshore wind sector.

The IAC and scour pad survey activities are currently in progress, with completion expected by October 2023. Sam Gardner, the project manager, emphasised the significance of these efforts, stating, “Based on lessons learned in the offshore wind industry, Vattenfall is taking proactive measures to reduce risk and increase the lifetime integrity by stabilising the Inter Array Cables (IAC) at HKZ 1-4 with rock berms.” This commitment underscores the company's dedication to the longevity and reliability of its wind energy infrastructure.
