RWE, a player in the energy sector, has greenlit its final investment decision for a battery storage project located in Eemshaven, the Netherlands. The project, set to significantly bolster the region's energy infrastructure, boasts an impressive power capacity of 35 megawatts (MW) and a substantial storage capacity of 41 megawatt-hours (MWh).
Construction of this cutting-edge facility is scheduled to commence by the close of 2023, with commissioning anticipated in 2025. The project entails the installation of a total of 110 lithium-ion battery racks, strategically positioned at RWE's biomass plant in Eemshaven, encompassing an area of approximately 3,000 square metres.

RWE is poised to invest €24 million in this forward-looking initiative, which is meticulously designed to seamlessly integrate the variable power generation profile of the OranjeWind offshore wind farm into the Dutch energy landscape.
In a pivotal move last year, RWE secured the implementation of the offshore OranjeWind project off the Dutch coast. This visionary venture encompasses a comprehensive system integration concept that harmoniously combines the wind farm's operations with the production of green hydrogen and other innovative solutions, including battery storage.

Roger Miesen, CEO of RWE Generation and Country Chair for the Netherlands, underscored the importance of flexible battery storage in an evolving energy landscape.
