EDF Renewables UK Expands Portfolio with Acquisition of SAS Energy

UK and Ireland has taken a significant step to enhance its presence in the sector by acquiring SAS Energy, a provider of solar technology solutions for the commercial and industrial segments. The strategic move aims to reinforce EDF Renewables' current standing within the industry and bolster its portfolio of sustainable energy projects.

SAS Energy officially became a wholly-owned subsidiary of on September 15th, bringing with it a dedicated team of 30 professionals and an extensive portfolio comprising over 45 projects in various stages of development and construction.

The acquisition builds upon an existing partnership between the two organizations, which recently collaborated on the installation of rooftop-mounted solar (PV) panels at Safran's Pitstone manufacturing facility. SAS Energy played a pivotal role as the main contractor in this project, which involved the installation of more than 2,100 roof-mounted panels. The initiative is anticipated to cover an average of 47% of daytime electricity consumption at the Pitstone site between May and September.

Matthieu Hue, CEO of EDF Renewables UK, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition's potential impact, stating, “Our mission is to create a future where clean energy powers all parts of our lives, so we are delighted to have the team at SAS Energy join our Commercial and Industrial Renewables team to support the ever-increasing number of businesses that are looking to decarbonize their operations.”

The addition of SAS Energy to the EDF Renewables UK family is expected to accelerate the company's growth and strengthen its project pipeline. It will enable the expansion of in-house offerings to encompass both financed and capital-funded projects spanning solar energy, charging infrastructure, and battery storage solutions for commercial clients.

Nick Porter, Managing Director of SAS Energy, emphasized the shared vision of the two organizations, stating, “From the start, our purpose was to help businesses play their part in the fight against climate change by taking advantage of the benefits offered by solar. From our existing relationship with EDF Renewables UK, it is clear that they share this vision, so we're incredibly excited to join such a well-established leader in renewables.”

Matt Nunn, Director of EDF Business Solutions, highlighted the increased capability resulting from the acquisition, stating, “Our increased in-house capability with SAS Energy will enable us to deliver on-site solar projects more efficiently, to a wider range of business customers. We are excited to be able to help more customers on their journey to Net Zero, through solar energy.”

With the acquisition now finalized, EDF Renewables UK is focused on ensuring a seamless transition while maintaining momentum on ongoing projects, further advancing its commitment to a sustainable and clean energy future.
