Amazon has taken another significant step towards its commitment to powering its operations with 100% renewable energy by partnering with Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) to harness solar energy in Spain. This collaboration is part of Amazon's broader sustainability initiatives.
As part of this multifaceted agreement, Abdul Latif Jameel's subsidiary, FRV, will provide clean energy capacity to fuel Amazon's operations through five solar plants in Spain. While one of these plants is already operational, the remaining four projects are set to be completed by 2024. Collectively, these solar farms are anticipated to generate over 1.5 terawatt-hours (TWh) of clean energy annually.

This endeavor aligns with Abdul Latif Jameel's commitment to environmental responsibility and decarbonization. They are actively migrating their on-premises information technology workloads to Amazon Web Services (AWS), a move that not only advances their sustainability goals but also contributes to a reduction in their carbon footprint.
Fernando Salinas, Managing Director of FRV Iberia, underscored the significance of this collaboration, stating, “FRV aims to drive innovation and develop solutions that can make renewable energy accessible to everyone.” He added, “This strategic collaboration with Amazon will enable us to continue contributing to the decarbonization of the electricity sector and its independence from fossil fuels to drive economic, social, and environmental advancements for future generations.”

In addition to the renewable energy partnership, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has secured a notable role in this comprehensive deal. Abdul Latif Jameel, an internationally diversified business, has selected AWS as its preferred cloud provider.
