Enersense is set to play a pivotal role in the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) for the foundations of the Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm expansion project. Suomen Hyötytuuli, the developer behind this ambitious venture on the west coast of Finland, is gearing up to erect wind turbines in deeper waters than ever before in the country.
Scheduled for completion in November 2023, the FEED phase represents a crucial step towards the realization of this offshore wind farm extension. The final concept selection for the foundations is expected to be made in December 2023.

This expansion project presents unique challenges, as the foundations for the initial turbines will be positioned in water depths ranging from 25 meters to 40 meters. These foundations must be designed to endure the formidable forces exerted by the 15MW-plus turbines and the unforgiving icy conditions of the Baltic Sea.
Enersense Offshore's innovative concrete and steel hybrid concept has been chosen as one of the designs to undergo FEED evaluation, alongside two other foundation proposals. The company's solution is tailored specifically to address the icy Baltic Sea environment, with a strong emphasis on optimizing the cost-effectiveness of marine installation operations.
The Tahkoluoto extension project envisions the installation of 40 wind turbines, each boasting a capacity of over 15 megawatts. The necessary water and construction permits are anticipated to be finalized in the coming autumn. Notably, the project has secured funding from the European Union's NextGenerationEU initiative, highlighting its significance in Europe's sustainable energy landscape.
