Ocean Winds Signs Strategic MoU with Rio de Janeiro State to Boost Offshore Wind Development

has entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. This collaboration signals a strong commitment to advancing wind projects within the region while aligning with objectives and economic development goals.

Brazil is making strides in establishing the legal framework for the offshore wind industry, with plans to have it in place by the end of the year. The official signing ceremony, which took place in Rio de Janeiro, was presided over by the acting governor of the state, , and Ocean Winds' Chief Executive, Bautista Rodriguez.

Rio de Janeiro, renowned for its extensive coastline and favorable wind conditions, holds immense potential for harnessing these natural resources to generate stable and sustainable renewable power through offshore wind projects. Ocean Winds' pursuit of a license for the 5GW Ventos do Atlantico project in the region underscores its dedication to supporting and nurturing the state's offshore wind potential. Additionally, it highlights the socioeconomic benefits associated with such projects, including job creation and opportunities within the supply chain.

Thiago Pampolha, the acting governor of Rio de Janeiro, emphasized the state's unique position, stating, “The state of Rio de Janeiro has the third longest coastline in the country – 636km. Constant, unidirectional winds make part of the coast the perfect setting for offshore wind farms. The signing of this MoU is another step towards decarbonizing the economy, towards sustainable development.”
