In a significant stride towards integration, has set in motion the Windader West project, a groundbreaking -onshore wind connection endeavor encompassing a substantial 8GW of energy capacity. This initiative encompasses four distinct offshore grid connection systems, namely NOR-15-1, 17-1, 19-1, and 21-1, ushering in a new era of sustainable power transmission.

The Windader West project charts a visionary course by incorporating cutting-edge submarine cables originating from wind farms nestled in the . These cables, functioning as conduits for the green energy, will be harmoniously bundled as underground cables extending from the coastal areas to strategic network connection points within the vibrant Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region.

In a meticulously outlined timeline, the project envisages the installation of the first tranche of 2GW offshore capacity by 2032, aimed at catering to the energy needs of North Rhine-Westphalia. This initial phase stands as a testament to Offshore's unwavering commitment to accelerating the transition towards sustainable energy consumption.

Subsequent to the initial phase, the project is poised to reach completion in a staggered manner, with the remaining three connection lines anticipated to be fully operational by 2033, 2034, and 2036. These lines, each boasting a robust transmission capacity of 2000MW, epitomize the new breed of high-capacity offshore connections.

Peter Barth, the accomplished Managing Director of Amprion Offshore, shared his insights on the pivotal undertaking: “The Windader West amalgamates four pioneering projects, each endowed with an impressive transmission capacity of 2000MW. This assemblage signifies the advent of a powerful 2GW offshore connection generation, cementing Amprion's pivotal role in expediting the efficient transformation of our energy landscape. By channeling substantial wind energy volumes to North Rhine-Westphalia, we are scripting a sustainable future.”

As the global drive towards renewable energy sources gains momentum, Amprion Offshore's Windader West project stands as a beacon of innovation and collaboration, poised to invigorate North Rhine-Westphalia's energy landscape with clean and abundant wind-generated power.
