Danish green energy company, GreenGo Energy, has announced plans to build a massive renewable energy park called Megaton.
The project, which will cost around DKK60bn (€8bn) and is backed by some of the world's major investors in renewable energy and infrastructure, will be located in the Ringkøbing-Skjern municipality in Denmark.
The park will be based on 4 GW of renewable hybrid solar and onshore and offshore wind energy, with 2 GW of electrolysis at its core. The Megaton project is expected to produce more than one million tons of green fuels per year, and generate 11.5 TWh of renewable energy annually, equivalent to over 30% of Denmark's current total energy consumption.

The project is also expected to create 300-500 permanent local jobs and make a substantial contribution to Denmark's goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 70% by 2030.
GreenGo Energy CEO Karsten Nielsen said: “With the Megaton project and the development of one of the world's largest energy parks in Western Jutland, we will once again put Denmark on the world map as a leader in the transition to 100% green power and the green fuels that are necessary to achieve the global climate goals towards 2050.”
