Danish Energy Agency Initiates Market Dialogue to Explore Transition Options for Offshore Wind Projects

The Energy Agency is set to hold a market dialogue on 10th August to discuss the potential transition of the open door scheme for wind projects. This dialogue aims to address the scheme's compatibility with EU regulations, following its suspension on 1st February 2023 pending further clarification.

In response to the need for adjustments to ensure compliance with EU law, the has been diligently working on refining the open door approach. The recent political agreement on Denmark's Marine Plan, announced on 7th June 2023, has opened up the possibility for three prospective offshore projects: Kadetbanke, Paludan Flak, and Vikinge Banke, to apply for a potentially adjusted arrangement.

The Danish Energy Agency is actively seeking input and perspectives from the industry, which will be invaluable in shaping the procedure as they work towards a legal and technically feasible transition approach for the open door scheme. This collaborative effort will ensure the development of a robust and effective framework for offshore wind projects in compliance with EU regulations.

The market dialogue, scheduled for 10th August, will be held at the Danish Energy Agency's headquarters in Copenhagen. Additionally, interested stakeholders will have the opportunity to participate online, facilitating broader engagement and inclusivity within the industry.

In preparation for this event, Mr. Lars Christian Lilleholt, the Danish Minister for Climate, Energy, and Supply, emphasized the significance of this market dialogue, stating, “We recognize the importance of offshore wind energy in achieving our goals. This market dialogue will allow us to gather valuable insights from industry experts and stakeholders, ensuring a smooth and lawful transition for the open door scheme.”
