Eolus Vind and Other Wind Farm Developers Address Concerns Surrounding Siemens Gamesa Turbines

Swedish wind farm developer Vind has responded to concerns regarding the technical issues observed in turbines supplied by . Eolus Vind stated that the frequency of such issues is not higher than that of other manufacturers and reassured stakeholders that components for new projects are being delivered as scheduled.

According to a spokesperson from Eolus Vind, the company currently has 61 turbines equipped with Siemens technology under construction in Sweden. They confirmed that components for all sites are being delivered on time, as outlined in the program.

The parent company of Siemens Gamesa, (ENR1n.DE), recently retracted its 2023 profit outlook due to higher failure rates in its newer models. The necessary repairs for these models are expected to cost over 1 billion euros ($1.1 billion), causing a decline in share prices.

However, Eolus Vind affirmed that they have not encountered any significant quality issues with the Siemens Gamesa turbines in their ongoing construction projects thus far. The spokesperson highlighted the longstanding reputation of Siemens as a respected supplier in the industry and emphasized that Eolus Vind maintains open and constructive dialogues with them regarding performance and any potential issues that may arise.

Presently, Eolus Vind operates 19 Siemens Gamesa turbines across five operational wind farms. The company asserted that it has not experienced a higher frequency of issues compared to other component suppliers, who are also grappling with similar challenges. The spokesperson acknowledged that the wind energy sector has grown rapidly in recent years, accompanied by significant technological advancements. Therefore, occasional technical issues are to be expected within such a dynamic industry.

Other wind farm developers echoed these sentiments and downplayed concerns surrounding Siemens Gamesa turbines. The industry as a whole recognizes that technical issues are not exclusive to a single manufacturer and are currently being addressed by various stakeholders.
