Amara Raja Group Expands Global Presence with $130 Million Solar Power Project in Bangladesh

In a significant development, the , an Indian conglomerate, has announced its entry into the international market by securing a $130 million power project in . This landmark project aims to alleviate the electricity crisis faced by Bangladesh while strengthening its commitment to clean energy solutions.

The comprehensive project encompasses the engineering, design, supply, installation, and commissioning of a 100 megawatt solar power plant. for this venture will be provided by the EXIM Bank of India. The Amara Raja Infra Private Limited (ARIPL), a subsidiary of the Amara Raja Group, confirmed these details in an official statement.

The project is expected to be completed within a span of 18 months. Once commissioned, ARIPL will extend its services by offering comprehensive operation and maintenance support for a duration of two years. Additionally, the company will provide warranty spares and consumables, ensuring the smooth and uninterrupted operation of the solar power plant.

Bangladesh has been grappling with its most severe electricity crisis since 2013, as indicated by a Reuters analysis of government data. This crisis has been aggravated by erratic weather patterns and challenges in managing fuel imports due to declining foreign exchange reserves and a weakened currency.

To address these energy challenges, Bangladesh has set an ambitious target of generating 4,100 megawatts of clean energy by 2030. Currently, the contribution of to the country's electricity generation remains negligible. The Amara Raja Group's solar power project marks a significant step towards achieving Bangladesh's renewable energy goals and fostering sustainable development.

In light of this groundbreaking venture, Mr. Jayadev Galla, Vice Chairman of the Amara Raja Group, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are delighted to embark on this new chapter in our journey, expanding our presence beyond India's borders. This project showcases our commitment to clean energy and our expertise in delivering reliable and sustainable solutions.”
