UAE Announces Goal to Produce 14 GW of Clean Energy by 2030

In an interview with CNN, Climate Minister Mariam Almheiri announced the United Arab Emirates' ambitious goal to produce 14 gigawatts of clean energy by 2030, while continuing to responsibly supply and gas.

Almheiri stated that the has already set targets for 2030 and 2050, and is currently at 9.2 gigawatts. By 2050, 50% of the country's energy supply will come from clean and renewable sources.

The Minister emphasized that the UAE is ramping up its use of renewables and decarbonizing, while also understanding the ongoing need for oil and gas in a responsible manner as the world transitions to a more sustainable energy system.

The Director General of the International Agency, Francesco La Camera, stressed the importance of swift action and the building of in order to combat climate change and the energy crisis.

He stated that the industry needs to be disruptive in order to quickly establish an infrastructure for a new energy system.
