China Three Gorge's (CTG) Pingtan offshore wind farm, located off the coast of Fujian, China, has recently welcomed the installation of a powerful 13MW wind turbine. Boasting an impressive impeller diameter of 130 meters, this colossal machine encompasses a swept area equivalent to approximately five standard football fields, according to CTG.
The introduction of this state-of-the-art turbine is projected to generate 50 million kWh of clean energy annually. This substantial output will effectively cater to the power needs of over 25,000 households each year. Furthermore, the utilization of this renewable energy source will contribute to a significant reduction in the consumption of standard coal by 15,000 tonnes and curtail CO₂ emissions by an estimated 38,000 tonnes.
To accomplish the installation process, the Baihetan vessel, the world's first new-generation 2000-tonne offshore wind farm installation platform, was deployed. This cutting-edge platform showcases a remarkable deck area spanning 4000 square meters and exhibits the capability to lift heavy loads up to 2000 tonnes. Additionally, the vessel is equipped to operate effectively in waters as deep as 70 meters, providing a stable and reliable working environment even amidst unpredictable sea conditions, as highlighted by CTG.
The successful integration of this high-capacity wind turbine, accompanied by the employment of innovative installation technology, marks another significant step in China's commitment to expanding its renewable energy sector. With its substantial energy production potential and notable environmental benefits, the Pingtan offshore wind farm and its newly installed turbine are poised to contribute towards the nation's ongoing efforts in sustainable development and combating climate change.
