Renexia, a leading renewable energy company, has recently entered into a partnership agreement with Seas Geosciences, an expert in underwater exploration. The collaboration aims to conduct an in-depth study on the most environmentally friendly mooring and anchoring solutions for the Med Wind floating offshore wind farm project located in the Mediterranean.
Seas Geosciences will employ their innovative remotely operated systems and unique sampling methods to investigate the underwater environment surrounding the wind farm. By utilizing cutting-edge technology, ideas, and tools, the team seeks to gain a comprehensive understanding of the ocean floor while minimizing any adverse impact on the ecosystem.

Paolo Casciotti, the president of Seas Geosciences, expressed his commitment to generating clean energy from the oceans in the most sustainable manner possible. “Our goal is to create a complete map of the activities beneath the seabed, prioritizing environmental safety and the well-being of our personnel,” Casciotti stated. With this approach, they aim to ensure that the project harnesses the power of the ocean while minimizing any potential risks to the marine ecosystem.
Seas Geosciences plans to deploy its state-of-the-art robotic seafloor drill and cone penetration testing technology, reaching depths of up to 40 meters below the seafloor in waters exceeding 900 meters deep. These activities will provide valuable geotechnical information about potential geohazards in the Sicily Channel, where the wind farm project is located.
The acquired data will enable Renexia to define and design the most suitable seabed anchoring systems for the wind turbines, ensuring the utmost consideration for the surrounding ecosystem. By collaborating with Seas Geosciences, Renexia aims to develop a wind farm that not only generates clean energy but also maintains ecological balance.
Seas Geosciences has also partnered with Argo, an Italian company, to provide the vessel that will serve as the base for the seafloor exploration. This collaboration will leverage the expertise of both companies, combining their strengths to achieve the project's objectives effectively.
The Med Wind project will be executed in a phased manner, gradually installing up to 190 turbines capable of generating an impressive 9TWh of clean energy. This significant renewable energy output will contribute to the region's sustainability goals while minimizing the project's ecological footprint.
Renexia and Seas Geosciences are paving the way for responsible offshore wind farm development, showcasing the importance of leveraging advanced technology and environmental awareness to drive the clean energy revolution forward.
