A new floating solar power farm has been commissioned by Akuo in Cintegabelle, a village located near Toulouse in southern France. The power farm, known as the Cintegabelle plant, boasts an impressive capacity of 8.7MWp and is situated on Cap Vert lake, a man-made lake covering 19 hectares that was created after a gravel quarry ceased operations.
The introduction of floating solar technology has not only allowed for the production of solar electricity but has also facilitated the rejuvenation of the area, which previously served as a reservoir and fishing zone. By providing local and decentralized renewable energy to over 2,000 households, the new floating photovoltaic power plant is estimated to prevent the emission of more than 900 tonnes of CO2 annually.
Scheduled for inauguration in September, the Cintegabelle plant marks another milestone in Akuo's commitment to advancing floating solar power. Later this autumn, Akuo plans to launch its third floating solar power plant in Gouts, situated in the southwest region of Landes, France.
Eric Scotto, the Chairman and Co-founder of Akuo, expressed his pride in seeing the second floating plant become operational. He emphasized the significance of floating solar technology in addressing the energy challenges that society faces today. Scotto also highlighted the collaboration between Akuo, Octopus Energy, a long-standing partner, and their financial allies, which has facilitated the emergence of a new business model for renewable energy production.
The new floating solar power farm in Cintegabelle showcases Akuo's commitment to sustainable energy solutions and signifies a step forward in the pursuit of a greener and more environmentally friendly future.
