EDP Renewables, a leading renewable energy company, has emerged triumphant in the recent Italian renewables auction conducted by Gestore Servizi Energetici (GSE), securing lucrative 20-year contracts. With a strategic mix of wind and solar projects, the company anticipates these ventures to commence operations by 2024, marking a significant milestone in Italy's sustainable energy landscape.
The auction witnessed fierce competition among various industry players, but EDP Renewables stood out by clinching an impressive 43% of the total capacity awarded. This remarkable achievement reinforces their position as a dominant force within the renewable energy sector.
Furthermore, EDP Renewables has effectively secured approximately 52% of the targeted 17GW additions, as announced during the highly anticipated EDPR Capital Markets Day in March 2023. This substantial share demonstrates their commitment to meeting ambitious renewable energy goals and reinforces their status as a key player in the industry.
Having entered the Italian market back in 2010, EDP Renewables has since been instrumental in spearheading sustainable initiatives. Their inaugural wind farm commenced operations in 2012, setting the stage for subsequent successes in the country. To date, they have impressively installed over 520MW of renewable capacity and have an additional 230MW of projects currently under construction across Italy. With over 60 employees dedicated to these projects, EDP Renewables continues to create valuable job opportunities while advancing Italy's clean energy transition.
