Coriolis Energy and ESB's Y Bryn onshore wind farm in Wales, with a capacity of 130MW, is set to undergo pre-application consultations. The project aims to install turbines in two blocks of Welsh Government Woodland Estate managed by Natural Resources Wales, mainly within Neath Port Talbot County Borough.
This announcement comes after two previous phases of consultation in 2021, as the developers seek local opinions and feedback through the Pre-Application Consultation process. Several revisions have been made to the initial proposals, including a reduction in the number of planned turbines from 21 to 18. Some of the turbines have also been scaled down in height, while others have been relocated to minimize their impact on the landscape and views of Bryn village and the surrounding communities.
In addition to the revised plans, information about the innovative community benefit and local ownership package has been released. A dedicated fund for enhancing recreational infrastructure has also been introduced. Details regarding the construction process and environmental considerations have been shared with the public.
The Pre-Application Consultation will commence on June 12, with further events scheduled for June 13, 14, 16, and 17. Stakeholders and the local community have until July 17, 2023, to provide their comments and feedback on the project.
Trevor Hunter, the project manager for Y Bryn, expressed enthusiasm about bringing the draft application to the Pre-Application Consultation stage. He acknowledged the significant interest and engagement received throughout the process thus far and eagerly awaits feedback on the refined proposals. Hunter emphasized the team's pride in the final plans and looks forward to discussing them with the local communities during the public exhibitions.
