The United Arab Emirates-based renewable energy company Masdar, along with state oil firm Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and oil major BP, have announced plans to conduct a joint feasibility study on the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the UAE.
This partnership, which also includes Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company Tadweer and Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways, aims to investigate the potential for producing SAF, as well as other products such as renewable diesel and naphtha, through the use of municipal solid waste and renewable hydrogen.
The study will assess the technical and commercial viability of the project, and if the results are favorable, the partners will work towards establishing the region's first commercial-scale production facility in Abu Dhabi.
