Orsted, a renowned renewable energy company, has recently inaugurated its Lisheen III wind farm in Ireland. This new development operates under a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement with Meta, the parent company of Facebook. With a capacity of 28.8 MW, the wind farm is situated adjacent to Orsted's existing projects, Lisheen I and II. Together, these three phases of the Lisheen project create the largest wind farm in Ireland, with a total capacity of 89 MW, contributing significantly to Orsted's renewable energy portfolio.
As part of the agreement, all electricity generated by Lisheen III will be fed into the national grid, while Meta will purchase the equivalent amount of renewable energy generated. This commitment demonstrates Meta's dedication to supporting sustainable practices and aligns with their goal of sourcing 100% renewable energy for their global operations.
TJ Hunter, Senior Director of Development and Operations for Orsted UK & Ireland, emphasized the significance of corporate power purchase agreements in advancing Ireland's ambitious green energy targets. He commended Meta for their commitment to renewable energy, as it plays a crucial role in driving the country's renewable transition.
Meta Energy Manager, Neil McDonagh, expressed his delight in the partnership with Orsted, stating that the Lisheen III wind farm contributes to their objective of procuring renewable energy for the grids where they operate. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in achieving sustainability goals and combating climate change.
Orsted's Lisheen III wind farm represents a significant step towards a greener future in Ireland, showcasing the potential for collaboration between corporations and renewable energy providers to drive sustainable change. With the generation of clean electricity and the support of companies like Meta, Ireland moves closer to realizing its 2030 green energy targets.
