Danske Commodities has signed a ten-year optimisation agreement for the 400MWh Windyhill battery energy storage system (BESS) located outside Glasgow.
The company said the contract covers its largest battery storage asset to date and will deploy its fully automated algorithmic trading platform to maximise revenues across wholesale and ancillary services markets.
The 200MW/400MWh project is being developed by Revera Energy, which is backed by Carlyle.
Jakob Sørensen, chief executive of Danske Commodities, said the company will apply its extensive experience in British power markets to optimise the asset and provide additional flexibility to support intermittent renewable generation.
He added that the UK remains a core market for the trader and that it intends to continue expanding its portfolio of flexible assets.
The company noted that the agreement builds on recent growth in its flexibility business, including last year’s optimisation deal for the 200MWh Kvosted battery asset, described as the largest combined solar and battery park in the Nordics.
Danske Commodities expects rising demand from customers seeking support in managing flexible resources such as batteries and other dispatchable assets that can respond dynamically to market price signals.
